"Production Notes by Andrew Crines"

It was a hard decision to make Hard Decisions! Ahem. Erm, basically, way back in 2000 at a JMKH meeting I pitched the idea of writing out the long running companion, Jon Beaufort once and for all. So, I decided to write an emotional piece, where we’d deal with the dreadfulness of the situation facing the Doctor. Namely, sell out your companion in the hope that you’re doing the right thing. Effectively, I wanted it to be as lifelike as possible.

So, off we went, filled with enthusiasm! Sadly, whilst in the archives JM&KH stopped making audios and Westlake Enterprises (now Westlake Films) was formed. As such, it was doomed never to be finished. Over time, it gathered dust, only occasionally being remarked on or slight bits of work would be done on it. Gareth Preston provided many hours on this project, constructing the scenes together into a listenable format. Over time, a few people who knew us would ask about it, but no one really cared because we were making films now…

However, all those little hours of work began to build up. Bit by bit, it grew until we had a complete edit finished recently. “Mmm”, I thought to myself, “why not use stock-music from Peter and get the damn thing over with!”

So, that’s what I did, so please forgive any dodgy music laying or anything like that. This was my first story to put music on, so it’s not exactly up to Kevin’s standards (who sounded our other output) but I did my best! Besides, it was the only way to get it finished finally.

Five years after work began, I am happy to present JM&KH’s last full length audio drama. It may seem silly, but editing the last few scenes were actually pretty emotional. So much so, I had to use our old closing theme, but I chickened out in the end and had it morph “The Five Doctors” style into our normal theme. But, this story marks the end of an era for all of here at Westlake Films.

JM&KH Productions is dead! Long Live JM&KH Productions!
