Production Notes by Kevin Hiley

The company I work for has got around a bit over the years. With a background in making history documentaries at home and travel series abroad, there really have collected together an impressive archive of material. Recently we've been compiling together the hundreds of hours of scenic shots (or GVs as we call them) to advertise this range to various film libraries.

I was given the monumental task of trying to view my way through as many of these tapes as I could and produce a number of short musical "tasters" to give a feel for the material available. Working with so many hours of video for so small an amount of time proved to be quite a challenge and a number of days were needed to swim through so many tapes often picking them at random and hoping there was something truly striking on there! Since they serve no commercial purpose it would be a shame to just leave these Library Tasters to gather dust on a shelf with virtually no one ever seeing them. So here I'm presenting 3 of them for everyone to see!

"Steam" features many sights from Britain's industrial history. It's set to Strauss' "Perpetual Motion" which seemed perfectly fitting to the hypnotic ever moving parts of the steam engine.

"Heritage" shows scenes from various historic landmarks of the UK. See how many you can recognise! Set again to Strauss. This time "The Last Waltz."

"Industry" contains scenes of traditional heavy industry at work today in the UK. Once every town and city would have been alight with the glow of white hot metal, but nowadays its become a specialist occupation. Set to Prokofiev's "Dance of the Knights."
