This film was made as part of a training weekend following a discussion I had with Kevin Hiley about showing other members of our ‘film producers group’ how to create short films and take on roles such as directing and video editing. So, off I went and I wrote a short script originally set in Manchester's huge shopping complex, the Trafford Centre in which the Doctor and Companion scout a few shops, after which the Doctor ends up in more trendy Ecclestonesque clothing.

Anyway, the duties of production were split between Jonathan Miles, Joshua Fielden and myself who all met at Kevin's house on the Friday before the August Bank Holiday 2004 weekend where we were given final guidance on producing a film, after which we were let loose on the Saturday around Holmfirth. Many good things occurred as well as the odd argument throughout the day, however we got all the scenes in the can and then retired back to Kevin’s on Saturday evening to begin the editing. Throughout the night the footage was captured to PC and, over the next 48 hours the Production team edited it - on an editing program none of us had ever seen until that weekend! Thankfully, the program turned out to be pretty user friendly and not as scary as I’d expected. The very first film we made, The Alliance back in the mid 90s was edited ‘tape to tape’... this is a concept which is even more scary, so now I’m very happy to be editing on a PC!

Now, onto other stuff! This film's budget will always come back to haunt me. As a short, little film it shouldn’t have cost that much, right? Well, it came back at about £450... eeek. Luckily, most of it went on costumes, props etc which will be re-used in other productions, however when I think about it now all I see are £££ signs!

The music was a mis-match of tunes taken from stock of the scary Peter Wicks or new stuff from the scarier Darren Crines (mein bruder!). The music was excellent and works very well with the scenes it was put in.

This film was our first film under viVid Productions - However I must stress it was made as an educational piece, so it will have flaws in it both in all aspects of its production. Kevin eventually edited two of the scenes as one of our ‘trainees’ decided to concentrate on acting, so we needed rescue or it’d all fall into a big pile of Pertwee. He was invaluable in providing tips for editing. Indeed, the excellent lightening was done entirely by him for which we’re all grateful for. However, I’m sure that as we go forward we’ll improve and get better as we make more films.

Executive Producers Notes by Kevin Hiley

Nemesis of Doom was bourne of Andrew's desire to learn to edit and direct. Before we knew it there was a weekend set aside to engineer a short film from start to finish with the usual Production Stalwarts of myself and John taking a back seat whilst Andrew, Josh and Jonathan were put on the front lines.

I think it has been a baptism of fire for them with many strained relationships and creative disagreements but they did bring back a finished film and after tweaking and general mastering I think we have a fair end product! If they learned nothing else that weekend, it was that making these things is uphill work! John and I had to do a lot in post production but then the schedule was far behind by that and if we hadn't it wouldn't have been made. I Apologise for the cheesy opening titles! They were rushed!

But hopefully the Doctor, Warren, The Master and Dymwitt should be back for more stupid adventures later in the year!
